Set Specific Goals
When starting off, limit your goals to two or three, to avoid overwhelming yourself. Start with something small and realistic.
Instead of setting a goal for better, younger-looking skin, be more specific. Here’s some ideas to get you started:
✅Cleanse & moisturise every day
✅Use SPF every day
✅Stop going to sleep with makeup on
✅Exfoliate once or twice a week
✅Start using an eye cream every night
These goals are more easy to track and feel less daunting to achieve. Start with a couple and slowly build up.
Complex routines can feel overwhelming, especially at first. Instead, start with a couple simple steps.
Focus on the essentials: cleansing, moisturising, and SPF protection.
This way you can build the base for a successful skincare routine. Without taking on too much at once.
It might seem slow, but this ensures sustainable progress. Mastering one step before moving to the next, making it easier to stick to.
After a few weeks, you can add more targeted care. Such as a dark spot cream or a skin tightening serum. Follow this for a few weeks before adding a further step if you’d like.
Bonus tip: take before and after photos to keep track of your progress and motivate yourself!
Staying consistent can be challenging. So here are a few tips to help you follow your routine no matter what
1. Set Reminders. On your phone, tablet or watch. An alarm in the evening can quickly remind you to cleanse and apply your moisturiser before bed.
2. Skincare Station. Try keeping all your skincare products in one place, such as a bathroom shelf.
3. Prepare For Setbacks. Design a plan which accounts for potential challenges, such as an illness or busy days. If you’re too weak or tired for a whole routine, maybe just stick to washing your face. And don’t worry if you skip a few days. Just try to get back on track when you can.
A Fresh Start
Following your routine daily isn’t the only thing to help you achieve your goals. In fact, the tools you’re using could also play a huge role…
Pillowcases, eye masks, makeup brushes, even your phone screen. All these come in contact with your skin daily.
So with the new year, make sure they are clean. As they could be harbouring bacteria, setting your skin goals back without you even realising.
And don’t forget to check the product expiration dates. Expired products could stop you seeing the results you’re after.
Enlist the help of friends or family. They can hold you accountable or even remind you to apply that SPF in the morning.
You could also partner up with a friend who has similar skincare resolutions. This way you can form new habits, track progress and celebrate successes together.
